You Notice Things Feel Different
You are moving through your days and noticing something has shifted. Maybe it's an increase in irritability, a shorter fuse than you used to have, or a creeping sense that the life you built no longer fits the way it once did. Your priorities have changed, or are changing, and your sense of self is trying to keep up. You feel on edge, tight in your body, and aware that you are pulling away from people more than you want to be.
You want to show up fully, for your child, your relationship, your work, yourself, but most days you feel depleted before you've even begun. Sleep is elusive or interrupted. The mental load is constant. You are doing so much, and somehow still feel like it isn't enough. You wonder whether there is space for the woman you are alongside the mother you are becoming, or have already become.
Motherhood Is Not What You Expected
You didn't anticipate how much would change, or how quietly it would happen. You find yourself questioning your relationships, the way you were raised, the kind of parent and partner and person you want to be. You are surrounded by opinions…from family, from the internet, from strangers, and you feel simultaneously overwhelmed by advice and quietly afraid that you still aren't prepared enough.
There are moments that are beautiful, and you hold onto them. But there are also moments that are isolating, confusing, or simply hard in ways you weren't given language for. Motherhood has been happening for centuries, and yet no one quite told you it might feel like this. That ambivalence and love can live side by side. That struggling doesn't mean you are failing. That you deserve support too, not just as a mother, but as a whole person.
